THE ST. MARY MAGDALENE CHURCH RE-ORDERING PROJECT
We are currently launching an Appeal to raise £45,000. We honestly and firmly believe this amount is achievable if we all just give a little. The church has identified that the inside of the building does not meet the current needs or the future needs of our community. We need to make the building more versatile and welcoming so that it can be used for concerts, meetings and other community purposes.
We are aiming to remove all the Victorian pews within the main body of the nave and replace them with comfortable, moveable chairs. The current doorway for wheelchair users will be made larger to give them better accessibility. We are going to use what is now the Lady Chapel as a room for one-to-one consultations or as a meeting room. The church is currently used by Medway Citizens Advice Bureau who hold twice weekly drop-in sessions, the local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) who holds a monthly surgery, and Medway Youth Services also run a weekly drop-in during the winter months. Our vision is to make our church the centre of the community as it once would have been. Re-ordering will allow us to expand on what we are already doing; we will have a more adaptable and flexible space that can be used by larger community groups.
First and foremost our church will always remain a place of worship, but in today's world and looking to the future we know we need to 'fling wide the gates' and 'connect' with the people around us.
We are really happy to inform you that Mr. Jools Holland OBE DL has agreed to be a Patron of our Appeal.
Future fund-raising events are:
